The king’s speech

For film critic Julio Rodriguez Chico, this movie portrays the story of a man who overcomes his trauma with excellent actors, a perfect setting and smart and subtle dialogues. Des hommes et des dieux

Although this movie was premiered in 2010, it only reached Colombian theaters this year. This French movie was awarded the highest distinction at the Cannes Film Festival. Its argument develops the story of a group of monks who remain in a monastery during Argelia´s civil war. Its director Xavier Beauvois presents a lyric, acclaimed and heartfelt film about the life of a group of religious men who struggle between life and death, and with the acceptance of a fateful and tragic reality. Black Swan

For many, this was one of most prominent films of the year, considered by some critics as the type of movie that can cause love and hate at the same time. The movies execution, the performance of its leading actors, the script, the combination of visual elements, its music and the audiences positive reviews where some of the ingredients that triggered the film’s success and its overwhelming acceptance. Natalie Portman´s flawless performance won her an Academy Award as Best Actress. Director Darren Aronofsky managed to create psychological thriller in which, as the movie advances, viewers get to know the mind of its protagonist and her most profound states of mind. Winter´s bone

“Unforgettable”, that is the word that describes this movie directed by Debra Grani, which has won numerous awards including the highest distinction of the Sundance Film Festival. The movie is based on a novel by Daniel Woodrell and according to the critic, Jennifer Lawrence´s performance “is more than just a performance, it´s a storm coming your way”. David Edelstein from New York Magazine refers to the film with these words: “with all its horror, is the struggle for life and not its decadence what you remember. Midnight in Paris

Featured at the opening of the Cannes Film Festival, this movie managed to become Woody Allen´s biggest box office hit in the United States. Loved by spectators and largely criticized by film experts, this romantic comedy is a mixture of literature and life, relationships, life in a city of dreams, nostalgia and romanticism.
