Rosa Gándara Vargas is a woman form Cartagena that is in her forties and can say that learning has been the engine of her life. For the past 30 years she has lived in Bogota and it was in this city where she has been able to expand her knowledge in many areas, especially in those related to food products. Her passion for cooking and culinary in general is, as Rose affirms: “Inherited, because even if the family is made up by bacteriologists, doctors, chemists and linguists, we all love to cook. We are all attracted by this field.”

During the pilot phase of the Digital Mipyme (Micro, Small and Medium companies) in 2008, one of the most active participants was Milady Martinez Perez, mother and entrepreneur who began a project more than 20 years ago that today supports 12 women. Its function is to create embroideries, very beautiful and well known in Cartago, Valle, where the company does not just produce children and adult clothing but other pieces for the home like table cloths, place mats, home electric appliance covers and sheets, among others.

Sandy Gutiérrez is only 21 years old, despite her young age she can say that she has two technical careers and experience in customer service in the telecommunications sector. She currently works at the AMI telecenter- Compartel de Palmar de Varela (municipality of the Atlantic province) where she arrives by bus from the place where she has lived all her life: Polo Nuevo, at about 35 minutes from her work place.

Hector Hernando Peña is 44 years old, happily married and with two children. For more than 30 years he has been an enterprising individual. “I have been an entrepreneur since I was 10, due to the difficult economic situation in my family I was forced to sell products on the streets, doing whatever had to be done and because of that I have had all types of businesses like nightclubs and stores.”
He comes from a Casanare family. The frenetic rhythm of business and sales made him decide to look for a “more relaxed” option about a year ago. As he himself puts it: “the hostel came up as an alternative for a relaxed business, to put it that way.”
